Dr. Jake McLeod Earns Double Board Certification
Jake McLeod, DPM, of Longview Orthopedic Associates, recently earned double board certification in foot surgery and reconstructive ankle surgery. The certification was granted by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery after an extensive evaluation.
Each of the certifications involved three parts:
- passing an exam that tested knowledge of general medicine and foot and ankle surgery
- undergoing a series of practical patient simulated cases, in which the patient is examined and the appropriate treatment is chosen and
- Submitting records for 26 patients to ensure that the correct procedures were performed and that any complications that arose were properly dealt with.
"Submitting the cases was the most difficult phase," McLeod said. "It took weeks of time to gather the necessary info, which included each patient's pre-op and post-op notes, operative reports, and x-rays and other imaging."
Once he finished his fellowship training, McLeod had seven years to become board certified. It typically takes candidates five years to complete board certification, but he was able to finish in just two.
"Earning board certification is something I'm very proud of," he said. "It verifies that I am on par with my colleagues around the world in terms on knowledge and skill in foot and ankle surgery."
Dr. McLeod treats sprains, fractures, and foot pain due to bunions, flat feet or arthritis. He specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, total ankle replacements, and ankle arthroscopy. He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association.
