Dr. Turner Leads Total Joint Program
Bill Turner, MD, of Longview Orthopedic Associates saw a need to streamline and improve the process for patients undergoing knee and hip replacement procedures. Turner’s efforts led to the creation of the Joint Replacement Center, a coordinated effort involving LOA surgeons and St. John Medical Center. Dr. Tony Lin Joins Staff at Longview Ortho
Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Tony Lin, MD, has joined the staff at Longview Orthopedic Associates and will begin seeing patients in mid-May.
In addition to sub-specialty board certification in sports medicine, Dr. Lin’s special interests include recurrent patella dislocations, massive rotator cuff tears, knee restoration procedures, multi-ligament knee reconstructions, shoulder replacement arthroplasties, and extremity fractures.
Dr. Lauder Featured at Bellevue Symposium
A.J. Lauder, MD, of Longview Orthopedic Associates was a featured presenter at the recent Upper Extremity Trauma Symposium at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, Washington.
Most of those who enrolled in the symposium were hand therapists, with some physical therapists and occupational therapists in attendance as well.

Couples’ joint replacements part of baby boomer trend
Glenn and Pat Faires and Bob and Helen Leu are best friends and avid square dancers.
And all four of them, who are in their 70s, have had two joints replaced by Dr. William Turner of Longview Orthopedic Associates, with Helen’s left knee this week the most recent operation.
Kung Leads Seminar at OHSU
Peter Kung, MD, of Longview Orthopedic Associates continues to build a reputation as a nationally-regarded orthopedic surgeon.
Kung was recently invited to teach a course in arthroscopic surgery to third- and fourth-year residents at a week-long course in Portland for Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU).
David Maligro to Retire
After nearly 20 years with Longview Orthopedic Associates, PA-C David Maligro will retire in October.
Maligro served in the U.S. Air Force before working as a physician’s assistant in Hawaii. He then attended the Medex Northwest Physician Assistant Program at the University of Washington, where he earned his certification.
ARNP Nichol Halverson Joins the LOA Staff
Longview Orthopedic Associates has added nurse practitioner Nichol Halverson to the staff. She is currently training with LOA physicians and PAs and will begin seeing patients on October 1st.

Dr. Blackstone to Retire
Bruce Blackstone, MD, founder of Longview Orthopedic Associates, has announced that he will retire at the end of May after serving area patients for 32 years.
Blackstone grew up in Longview and attended R.A. Long High School. He earned a B.A. in human biology at Stanford University where he was an offensive lineman on the varsity football team. He was named to the Academic All-American Team in 1973.

Patient Account Representative Linda Wirkkala will retire from Longview Orthopedic Associates on September 24th after more than 27 years with the company.
Linda was hired as a billing clerk on May 11, 1987. At that time, the LOA staff consisted of orthopedic surgeons Bruce Blackstone and Dave Black and seven additional employees. Today, Longview Orthopedic Associates features six surgeons and 35 support staff.

Dr. David Black Retires After 28 Years with LOA
David Black, MD, of Longview Orthopedic Associates retired at the end of June after 28 years of practice in the local area.
Dr. Black earned his medical degree at Tulane University before completing his orthopedic residency at the University of Utah and a hand surgery fellowship in Hartford, Connecticut. He joined Longview Orthopedic Associates in 1986.
Doug Harmon Rebounds with an Assist from Dr. Bruce Blackstone
Doug Harmon’s career as a meat cutter left him with damaged knees and ankles. He followed the advice of a friend and drove south to the offices of some big-name orthopedists in the Vancouver area for treatment. He says it was a mistake.

Dr. Lauder was recently invited by Stryker Corporation – which is among the nation’s foremost medical technology companies – to serve as faculty at a hand-wrist workshop in Mahwah, New Jersey. LOA Helps Fill the Canoe
For the fourth consecutive year, Longview Orthopedic Associates has participated in the Fill the Canoe School Supply Drive sponsored by Red Canoe Credit Union and the Salvation Army.
The drive, which ran from July 29th through August 16th, saw LOA staff members gather 80 pounds of paper, pencils, erasers, notebooks, backpacks, and crayons for distribution to area kids. Red Canoe matches each pound of supplies donated by participating organizations.

Christine Matthews Joins Staff at Longview Orthopedic Associates
Christine Matthews recently joined the staff at Longview Orthopedic Associates. She has more than 25 years of experience as a certified physician assistant.
She graduated from State University of New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology before completing her physician assistant certification at Albany Medical College. Matthews later earned a PA certificate in surgical residency at Yale University. She is a member of the Washington Academy of Physician Assistants.
