Sports Medicine Specialist to Join Longview Orthopedic Associates
Longview Orthopedic Associates (LOA) has announced that Peter L. Kung, M.D. will begin seeing patients in late August or early September. Dr. Kung specializes in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, the treatment of sports-related injuries and general orthopedics.
"We feel very fortunate to be able to add Dr. Kung to our staff," said Dr. William Turner of LOA. "We’re impressed with his sports fellowship work and the fact that he was named the top biomedical engineering student at Columbia University. However, what truly makes him a good fit with Longview Orthopedic Associates is his commitment to quality care and patient satisfaction."
Dr. Kung earned a Bachelor of Sciences with honors in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University and a Doctorate in Medicine with honors at Northwestern University School of Medicine.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California at San Francisco in 2008 and has worked as a sports medicine fellow at the nationally-renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles for the past year.
While at Kerlan-Jobe, Dr. Kung trained and worked closely with team physicians who treat professional athletes from the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Sparks, as well as collegiate football players from the University of Southern California. In addition, he also served as assistant team physician for Loyola Marymount University.
Dr. Kung said the opportunity to sign on with Longview Orthopedic Associates was exactly what he was looking for.
"LOA is a well-established group with a great track record for serving the community," Kung said. "The partners and staff are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care, and the facilities at Pacific Surgical Institute are amazing."
The recreational opportunities available in the Pacific Northwest also played a role in Dr. Kung’s decision to locate in Longview. He and his wife, Laura, enjoy fishing, hiking, scuba diving, traveling, and wine tasting.
Dr. Kung’s research has been presented at the annual meetings of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Northern Chapter of the Western Orthopaedic Association, the Inman-Abbot Society, and the International Trauma Symposium. His work has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the European Journal of Radiology, Clinical Biomechanics, and the Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research Journal.
Longview Orthopedic Associates is located at Pacific Surgical Institute at 625 9th Avenue in Longview.

February 16th, 2010 at 5:00 pmI’m looking forward to meeting Dr. Kung this Friday.
Perhaps he can help me with my ailing right knee.
Much has probably changed since my ligament surgery on the knee back in 1983 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Portland, OR.
